Kelly Bryant: Possible Transfer Destinations

We’re about halfway done with the 2018 college football season, and I’m just as depressed as you are about it. There’s a lot of questions that need answers before we can truly look ahead to next season. Who is going to lose to Alabama in the National Championship? Will UCLA or Tennessee win the race to tank for the #1 overall draft pick? Does Syracuse have the best defensive line in college football history? Only time will tell, as fans all we can do is wait and enjoy the season while we have it. However, there is one question we must, MUST, ask ASAP as possible: Where will Kelly Bryant play in 2019? The following Monday after the game against Georgia Tech Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney told Bryant that true freshman phenom Trevor Lawrence would be taking over as starting quarterback. Within two days Bryant announced that he intended to transfer from Clemson for better playing opportunities. That’s pretty much all we’ve heard out of Bryant, and he probably won’t announce the new

Donovan Mitchell is more than just an athlete

There are many reasons why this past season Donovan Mitchell was not only the most electrifying rookie in the NBA—but the best. In his first year in the NBA Donovan averaged 20.5 points, which led all rookies. He also averaged 6.5 points in the fourth quarter alone. In 79 games he set the single season rookie record for three pointers made with 186, surpassing Damian Lillard and Stephen Curry who are both current all stars, and in only 63 games played he made 150 three pointers, which suggests that next season he should be well over 200. Against the New Orleans Pelicans he dropped 41 points, which is not only the Jazz rookie record, but also makes him one of the only active NBA players to score 40+ points as a rookie. The other players who have done that? LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Eric Gordon, Steph Curry, and Blake Griffin. That’s pretty good company to be in. Donovan Mitchell took a city and state full of fans depressed about Gordon Hayward leaving for Boston an

UNC Football: Ceiling for 2018 Season

There’s no sugarcoating that 2017 was a disappointing year for the Tar Heel Football team. After finishing 2016 with an 8-5 record they lost six players to the NFL draft, including star quarterback Mitch Trubisky. That is a lot of talent to replace in one season, and while UNC has had consistently good recruiting classes the last few years, the combination of the loss of talent and some losses that could have gone either way, the Tar Heels limped to a 3-9 record, including 1-7 in ACC play.             After missing a bowl game for the first time in his UNC tenure, Larry Fedora is obviously looking for a bounce back season. Quarterback Chazz Surratt has had a whole offseason to prepare as the presumed starter, which makes a huge difference going into the season. Last year there was competition between Surratt and LSU transfer Brandon Harris. Surratt is also going to have a ton of weapons to utilize around him on offense. The defense returns a lot and has a couple o

All NBA Double Take Team

Every single NBA game you watch there will always be some dude who checks into the game, and you have no clue who he is. But then the game goes on for a while and that guy will start shooting free throws or something. So the camera zooms in on him and shows his name, and you do a double take with your chocolate milk because you realize you actually do know who that guy is. Maybe you saw him play in college but didn’t even know he made an NBA team, maybe he got drafted by Orlando and bounced around teams like Milwaukee and Detroit or something so you just forgot he existed. Whatever the case, it’s always fun to a player and ask your buddy if he knew that guy was still in the league. This NBA season had a lot of those double take moments for me, so I wrote up my list for “All NBA Double Take”  team. This isn’t based on talent, draft position, or literally anything other than my pure shock value that his person is still in the NBA. T.J. McConnell: Guard, Philadelphia 76er

The State of BYU Football

For the state of Utah, the BYU vs. Utah football game is one of the most important days of the year. Growing up in Salt Lake I looked forward to it every year. The week of the game, schools had activities where students dressed in their team’s colors, and everybody had watch parties for the game. It’s basically a holiday in Utah. But recently, the game has become less of an event, and more of a foregone conclusion. Utah fans have pre-typed tweets ready to mock their counterparts, while the Cougar faithful have their 1984 arguments in their back pocket, saved for occasions just like a Utah loss, (and really any other occasion you can possibly think of). While we’re all well aware that Ty Detmer won the Heisman Trophy in 1990, that doesn’t change the fact that in 2018 BYU is not a comparable football program to Utah. The most glaring indicator of Utah’s recent outperformance of BYU is that BYU hasn’t beaten Utah since 2009. A fellow named Max Hall was commanding the offense back
